So after four red bulls+twelve hours+Dru World Order = Florida

In a spur of the moment decision, my friends and I decide to make the best of an extended weekend with a road trip to Florida. Here are some pics of our "journey." We had no clue what that streak was in the sky and we're still wondering.

Random Little Ladies Living Their Random Little Lives

I had the opportunity to go to the beach over spring break in Texas. I ran into the most talkative, and beautiful young ladies since Hannah Montana. The two children are Sifa Opot and Terra Taylor. They were enjoying the sand and surf like the rest of us Spring Breakers, of coarse in a different way though.. And it makes my heart smile to see interracial children being able to play and live in harmony, given the long, treacherous road my people (African Americans) have traveled. With role models like Sasha and Malia Obama in their lives these two beautiful young ladies captured my attention and my camera. Toodles, Jess~

Feature Picture Story

This year many students were anticipating the prospective members of ALL female sororities on campus. I had the pleasure of catching the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s Probate Show. Not only was the weather beautiful on this April day so were the gorgeous ladies of Spring 2009 63 P.R.O.D.I.G.Y.~! We were treated to a probate show that consisted of song, dance, chant, and step as the ladies paid tribute to their organization as well as other members and other organization's on campus, the show lasted about 2 and a half hours and students, faculty, staff, and on lookers enjoyed an elaborate presentation by Alpha chapter AKA members. Enjoy for all those greeks and greek lovers out there~! Toodles, Jess

Some interesting pictures I took while in Florida. Two homeless people on the beach having an in-depth conversation about the weather, and an alien waiting for you to come sit down next to him....

HU Students Make West Coast Connections

On an amazing trip to Los Angeles, California, myself and five other HU students traveled across the country to visit major studios and companies within our prospective fields. In one photo, you see that we visited Extra, and went on set to meet host Mario Lopez. We walked around in Hollywood and saw the famous El Capitan Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Quite an experience!

SLAVES IN THEIR BUNKER

HIS PORTRAIT WAS OF SLAVES ON A 17TH CENTURY SHIP TO THE AMERICAS. IMAGES OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SLAVES ARE CAPTIVATING TO ME BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY VISUAL DOCUMENTATION WE HAVE OF THEM. ALTHOUGH FORMS OF MENTAL SLAVERY STILL EXISTS TODAY AMONG THE AFRICAN AMERICAN RACE, AT LEAST ITS NOT PHYSICAL, WE HAVE RECOGNIZABLE RIGHTS, AND WE ARE BEING COUNTED AS MORE THAN 1/3 OF A PERSON.

America the Beautiful

America still has some beautiful spots. While returning to the nation's capital from, literally, somewhere in Virginia, I caught a glimpse of this budding rainbow. These may not be "purple mountain majesties," but after living a big city for 22 years, this will do.

Creative Camouflage: What Do You See?

No, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. This isn't just a picture of some shrubs, there's a 6 inch lizard blending in with its surrounding.

Delightful Dishes on a College Budget

By Jamisha N. Purdy

If you’re a college student with a tight budget, don’t settle for less when it comes to what you eat. Popular restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory, Olive Gardens, P.F. Chang’s and Maggiano’s all have great affordable food. So eat up and enjoy.

An Early Bloomer

By Jamisha N. Purdy
You may not be able to tell from this picture, but yes, it's still winter. In Greenbelt, MD this tree is giving residents a sneak peak of Spring. But upcoming cold weather could halt this blooms progression.

Egypt

This past summer, I was fortunate enough to travel to Egypt with Dr. Carr, an African-American studies professor, and a group of Howard University Students. It's funny and such a cliche statement to make but sometimes I can't believe I was really there. The entire experience was so surreal. So beautiful.

I took hundreds of pictures, mostly "touristy" type pictures but I did take a few that I believe have a special journalistic quality to them. The picture featured above is one of them. It was taken on a boat in Aswan as we were sailing down the Nile. The picture is of a Nubian teenager sitting at the head of the boat, gazing out into the water.
